Remodel - Week 1

Here we go again...almost exactly 3 years after the start of remodeling the first floor, we have moved on to the 2nd floor. What was originally going to be just an existing bathroom remodel has turned into a much much bigger project...remodeling the entire master bedroom and girls' room. What we'll get is a new bathroom, a new "walk-in" closet in place of the existing bathroom, a larger master bedroom (taking down existing closets), and a larger bedroom for the girls.

Here are the before pictures of the outside. One of the reasons we're doing the addition is because we don't like the flat roof of the addition. Our contractor said it was the only option...we're not using the same contractor.

The girls room before...the room didn't really need to be bigger, but it will be much better for them to grow into as they get older.
Emme's side.
Hannah's side. The girls are currently sleeping in the guest room in their own beds. Joe and I will be joining them there in a week or so for the duration of the project. Last week was a hard adjustment as Hannah was quite upset that her room was being changed. Hannah is usually so easygoing about change that we weren't prepared for it, but all is calm and "settled" for now. The poor child cried over her hardwood floors being taken out...I never knew she was so attached to the floor. As for Emme, she was not sleeping well during her naps because of the noise, but this week has seen major improvement for all!

There has already been a slight delay, but it is strictly my own doing. We had them reframe the addition when we realized we had to change the roof style (due to the existing framing of the house) and we could get almost 2 extra feet in our bathroom. Another plot plan and trip to the building department, but they are back at it...
After a week+ of construction.

The girls room...you can see the existing wall and the "new wall" a few feet behind it. Even as I write this, I think the old wall has come down.

Our new bathroom. Our old bathroom window is boarded up on the right. The picture shows where our new shower and bathtub will be with a window over the bathtub.

It is very exciting to finally start the work. There have been many months full of research and decision after decision...who knew so many decisions went into a bathroom. And anyone that knows me, especially Joe, knows that I have a horrible time making decisions! Even seemingly simple decisions will take me days/weeks. I've had a few great friends to help and of course, my "bathroom husband"...better known as Matthew, our contractor! And Joe did throw in a few suggestions/opinions along the way. I think we have 1 decision left...lighting...and then done! Can't wait to see it all come together!
