"Camping" Adventure

This past weekend, we thought it would be fun to simulate a camping adventure with the girls. We also wanted to see if they were ready for a real camping adventure this Summer.

To start, we went to Habitat (a nature reserve in Belmont) to hike.

Planning our route! While Emme had a nice ride, Hannah had to walk it herself so we were trying to determine how long she could go (we got to about 35-40 minutes before she started to complain).

In Habitat, there is actually a house with lovely kept gardens. Before our hike, we walked around the grounds of the house.

And then off to hiking. Hannah always had to lead the way and often ran up ahead of us.

Hannah and Mommy hanging out in the meadows.

Joe found this hollwed out old tree that Hannah could actually fit inside. She was bit timid going in, but Joe stayed with her for support. All so Mommy could take a picture.

After our hiking adventure, we went to Beaver Brook to run around in the spray park and of course, the swings...Hannah's favorite.

Emme was tired by this point, rubbed sunscreen into her eyes, and was not really enjoying the water.

When we got home, it was time to set up camp (in our backyard)! Hannah was so excited!

Emme loved her new chair. She kept climbing in and out and was quite proud of herself.

After grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, and corn on the cob, we made s'mores by the fire. It was actually a warm evening so the fire was strictly for s'more making.

Emme even got to enjoy the s'mores (minus the chocolate). She wasn't quite sure whether she liked them but kept trying it.

And then definitely decided she didn't like it when she couldn't get it unstuck from her hand.

Hannah meanwhile enjoyed all of hers!!

All ready for bed! The plan was to put the girls to bed and then hang out a bit before we went to bed. The plan quickly became all of us going to bed since the girls couldn't seem to settle down.

Not much sleeping going on in the tent. Our new tent has 2 "rooms" separated by a zippered partition. Our side had an airbed while there's had layered sleeping bags...you can imagine where everyone wanted to be!

Emme was the biggest rock star staying up until almost 11p. We were about ready to call it quits when we remembered Emme's sleep sheep and only when we went in to get it at around 1030p did she finally realize...oh, it's bedtime. Somehow, Emme still managed to get up at 530a as usual. Both of the girls were back in their own beds in the house by 730a fast asleep.
As for our next camping adventure....we will definitely remember sleep sheep OR maybe it can wait until next year....
