Rainy Camping Trip

This past weekend, we ventured on our first camping trip of the year to the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  The forecast did not look good for the weekend, but we went with high hopes of "sprinkles" only!  Or even on and off rain!

After checking in and buying wood, we had nowhere to put it (the joy of car camping), but on the floor in front of Hannah...piled high!

 Hannah and her friend, Jake.
 Peek a boo Emme!
An interesting way to eat a hot dog!
Hannah and her friend, Evvie.  We all had a blast, but Hannah was particularly excited to be camping with all of her friends.
So Saturday morning, we woke up to rain and there it stayed directly over us the entire day!!!  At times it would slow down a bit, but it rained and rained the whole day.  We tried to make the most of it and were prepared for the rain with boots and jackets and lots of layers (it was chilly).
Out on a walk to the pond searching for frogs!
Some of the kids looking for frogs and salamanders.
Emme, happy as can be!  : )
Showing off the rain outside of the camp store!
A little rain won't stop a little birthday party fun!  Pinata time!
Hannah with Thomas (one of the birthday boys).
Our campsite!  Joe trying to look very sad.  We managed pretty well with our "sun" shade acting as a barrier and everything went under it....the tent opening, picnic table, fire pit.  And because of this, we were able to cook all of our meals over the fire and stay relatively dry.  Relatively dry because in reality we were all soaked through as we have learned, most rain jackets are water resistant and not waterproof.
After dinner and s'mores Saturday night, we decided to pack up and go due to the relentless rain and the forecast of relentless rain.  There was just so much rain that even under our shelter we were getting puddles.    Here are some pictures of the flooding in the park.
Our neighbor's fire pit.  No fires were had here!
Even though we cut our trip a little short, we still had loads of fun!!  Everyone was in the best spirits and made the most of it in spite of the rain!
